Introduction
Myanmar is a fascinating country in Southeast Asia. This attribute
creates a special ambience and exotic pleasure to visit Myanmar as a
mystical world.
Economy
The common industries found in Myanmar include agricultural
processing, textile and footwear, wood and products, copper, tin,
tungsten, iron, construction materials, pharmaceuticals and
fertilizers.
Myanmar’s official currency is the Kyat (pronounced as “Chud”). The
three currencies mainly in use are the Kyat (national currency),
the US Dollar and the FEC (Foreign Exchange Certificate). One FEC
always equals to one US Dollar. Only the local population may own
the FECs, instead of the Dollar.
People and Culture
The population of Myanmar is a collection of diverse people who
originated from China and Thailand. They are known as Mamars. They form
the majority of the Myanmar population comprising of not less than 67
separate indigenous races. The other minority races
include the Mons, Padaung, Wa, Shan, Kayin, Red Karen and Kachins.
The country is previously known as Burma. The country’s name was
changed by the current ruling military government in 1989 in order to reflect to closely in Burmese
pronunciation. Most of the citizens of Myanmar work for its military
government, which known as the State Law and Order Restoration
Council (SLORC).
