Introduction

Sri Lanka is a country in the India Ocean about 28 kilometers off the southeastern coast of India with a population of about 19 Million. The highest density of Sri Lanka is in the southwest i.e. Colombo. The country is with a main port and industries centre located.

Economy

Natural resources in Sri Lanka include limestone, graphite, mineral sands, gems and phosphate. Major products found in Sri Lanka are rice, tea, rubber, coconut and spices. GDP in Sri Lanka is $18.4 billion in year 2003 with annual growth rate of 5.9%

People and Culture

The people of Sri Lanka are called Sri Lankan. The net population growth is about 1.3%. It is ethnically, linguistically and religiously diverse. The ethnic group consists of 74% Sinhalese, which concentrated in the densely populated Southwest. Sinhala, an Indo- European language is the native tongue of the Sinhalese.
